AI-Based Mobility Listening Session
Register online to join SCAG and the HORIBA Institute for Mobility and Connectivity2 (HIMaC2) at the University of California, Irvine, for a listening session presenting results from recent research into the uses of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve safety and energy efficiency for transportation systems. This session will be offered in hybrid format, with the option of joining via Zoom or in person at the SCAG office:
SCAG Main Office
900 Wilshire Blvd., Ste. 1700
Los Angeles, CA 900175
The Vehicle Technology Office of the U.S. Department of Energy awarded HIMaC2 with grant funding to research the use of AI for transportation systems. HIMaC2 researchers are collecting anonymous traffic data at 25 intersections in the city of Irvine and safely sending driving suggestions to improve air quality, traffic, energy efficiency, and safety. Simulations will demonstrate how AI tools can operate at various scales to improve energy efficiency.
A previous listening session, hosted by HIMaC2 and SCAG in April 2023, discussed desired project outcomes. The Nov. 5 session will cover interim project results and discuss the future of AI and transportation, including a presentation of critical traffic data collected during the research and next steps for the program. Participation in the original listening session is not a prerequisite for participation on Nov. 5.
