SCAG’s Disadvantaged Communities Active Transportation Planning Tool

Toolbox Tuesday

Post

The Disadvantaged Communities Active Transportation Planning Initiative (DCPI) aims to significantly change active transportation planning in Southern California. Launched in January 2019, this ambitious project aspires to make active transportation plans—and their implementation—available to all communities in Southern California. The DCPI developed an Active Transportation Plan Toolkit based on best practices, practitioner input, and most importantly, actual use in seven communities in the SCAG region.

This Toolbox Tuesday session will provide an overview of the toolkit with a focus on how communities can take advantage of it to prepare their own active transportation plans. We will also share key lessons from piloting the Toolkit with the seven communities and how it can be best be utilized by jurisdictions throughout the SCAG region to achieve their active transportation goals. The session will include multiple different perspectives including the consultants who worked on the project as well as city staff and staff from a social service organization. Specifically, the panel will consist of the following individuals:

  • Sam Corbett, Principal, Alta Planning + Design
  • Courtney Banker, Planner, Alta Planning + Design
  • Jennifer Lilley, Community and Economic Development Director, City of Stanton
  • Maria Nava-Froelich, Director, Calipatria-Niland Family Resource Center
