Toolbox Tuesday Housing Series Part 1

Tools & Resources To Increase Housing Access and Exploring Development Trends

Post

Register here for a two-part Toolbox Tuesday Housing Series starting on Tuesday, Oct. 17 from 1 – 2:30 pm. In the first session, we will discuss the suite of tools jurisdictions will need to help identify ideal sites for new market-rate and affordable housing development.

We will also explore how once key demographic information is accounted for, local staff will then need to identify the existing conditions on the ground in their jurisdiction and work with this data to identify particular sites where there may be opportunities consistent with Housing Element requirements provided for by California state law and how housing development may qualify for streamlining under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

We will examine how we can use these various tools to provide data regarding fair housing in addressing areas of analysis including Segregation and Integration, Disparities in Access to Opportunity, Disproportionate Housing Needs, Racially/Ethnically Concentrated Areas of Poverty and more.

In addition to the tools mentioned above, SCAG has been preparing guidance materials for available Development Streamlining options. These materials combined with information around recent CEQA legislation, will help jurisdictions identify ways to accelerate housing production.

As part of SCAG Local Information Services Program, Toolbox Tuesdays provide training on a range of practical skills and knowledge for local planning practitioners including training in the use of technology and education for practical approaches to timely issues. All classes and webinars are COMPLIMENTARY for staff of SCAG-member local governments and other SCAG partners in Imperial, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura Counties. Private sector planners, non-profit staff, academics and students are welcome to attend.

Please reach out to the Local Information Services Team (LIST) at list@scag.ca.gov for further assistance.
