FAQ: SCAG Operations During COVID-19

News

Is SCAG open to the public?

SCAG’s regular business activities are continuing as normal; however, SCAG offices, including headquarters and regional offices, are closed at this time until further notice. SCAG staff can be reached by phone and email.

Is SCAG hosting stakeholder meetings?

Meetings will be facilitated by telephone and video via Skype and Zoom. Please visit our website at scag.ca.gov for details about current and upcoming meetings, including call-in information.

SCAG will not be hosting external meetings at this time. Current bookings will be honored unless circumstances change.

Is SCAG’s General Assembly and Regional Conference cancelled?

The Regional Conference component is canceled. After careful consideration of the growing concerns associated with the novel coronavirus outbreak in California, SCAG’s 55th Annual Regional Conference & General Assembly as originally scheduled for May 6-8 will not proceed.

We are currently evaluating alternative options for holding a General Assembly. The SCAG General Assembly is required to convene annually to adopt the agency’s budget and consider changes to the bylaws. They are also responsible for the approval of the agency’s slate of executive officers for the coming year. We are in the process of determining the best way to appropriately address these matters and will share updates as soon as plans are confirmed.

What about Regional Council and Policy Committee Meetings?

SCAG is evaluating available options for conducting Regional Council and Policy Committee meetings, and compliance with all legal requirements is of the utmost priority.

The April 2 Regional Council and Policy Committee meetings will be rescheduled to a special meeting, date to be confirmed shortly with participation by teleconference and web-based video conferencing via Zoom.

The March meeting of the Legislative/Communications and Membership Committee has been postponed until April 21.

SCAG will continue to monitor the situation closely and follow guidance from local, state and federal health agencies and updates will be shared as they are available.

Where can I find resources for my jurisdiction?

SCAG remains committed to supporting our local communities and serving as a resource for member agencies and Regional Council and Policy Members during this challenging time.

Please contact your county’s Regional Affairs Officer or Regional Services Manager, Javiera Cartagena at cartagena@scag.ca.gov with any questions or for assistance. Regional contacts can be found here.

How is SCAG handling deadlines for grant/projects and letters of support from SCAG?

Staff continues to communicate with state and federal funders and has requested guidance, particularly regarding outreach deliverables. We will strive to keep our project sponsors up to date. At this time, existing deadlines remain intact as regular business activities continue. For questions regarding specific projects and grants, please contact your project manager.

SCAG staff remains available to provide letters of support for your agency’s applications for state and federal competitive grant programs. Please contact Kevin Gilhooley at gilhooley@scag.ca.gov to secure this service.
