SCAG and Cal Poly Pomona Collaborate to Offer GIS Training Program for Planning Professionals
SCAG is thrilled to announce its partnership with Cal Poly Pomona’s Department of Urban and Regional Planning to provide the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Training Program, tailored for planning professionals in each of the six SCAG counties. Developed from insights from the Regional Data and Services Experience Survey, this two-and-a-half-day program will equip attendees with GIS skills to effectively tackle real-world planning challenges.
Who Should Attend
Planners, GIS technicians, engineers, management analysts and other professionals from local jurisdictions across the SCAG region are encouraged to participate.
Program Overview
The SCAG GIS Training Program offers a comprehensive overview of GIS principles and applications, providing participants with practical skills essential for effective planning. The program will also familiarize trainees with SCAG tools and resources to address local planning issues. As a bonus, these training sessions are eligible for American Institute of Certified Planners Certification Maintenance credits.

Program Schedule
Commencing in late May and concluding in early July, the program will span three consecutive days of tailored training sessions for each county within the SCAG region. Day one will commence at 9 a.m. and conclude at noon, while days two and three will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Refer to the syllabus for a detailed breakdown of course topics and daily program schedules.
