SCAG Hosts ‘Advancing Clean Transit Through Innovative Tools and Strategies’ Toolbox Tuesday

On Aug. 18, SCAG hosted the “Advancing Clean Transit Through Innovative Tools and Strategies” Toolbox Tuesday to explore practical strategies and best practices for transitioning Southern California transit systems to zero-emission technologies. 

The session introduced SCAG’s new regional toolkit from the “Innovative Clean Transit Regional Assessment Study” as well as resources from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), and lessons learned from transit operators across the SCAG region who have implemented zero-emission buses. Speakers include representatives from SCAG, CARB, Caltrans, the SunLine Transit Agency, and the Antelope Valley Transit Authority. 

SCAG’s new toolkit provides practical guidance for transit agencies to plan, procure, deploy, and operate zero-emission buses and supporting infrastructure. The toolbox also translates complex technical, operational, and organizational considerations into more accessible formats, including step-by-step guides, templates, decision-support tools, and fact sheets. These resources can help agencies make informed decisions throughout the project lifecycle while considering cost, scalability, and operational needs.
