San Bernardino County Breaks Ground on Bloomington Sewer Extension Project with REAP 2.0 Support
San Bernardino County recently began construction on the Bloomington Sewer Extension Project, which will expand critical infrastructure, support future housing, and strengthen long-term community resilience. SCAG supported the project with $6.5 million from the Regional Early Action Planning Grants of 2021 (REAP 2.0) program. REAP 2.0 provides funding to help local jurisdictions implement projects that accelerate housing production, reduce barriers to development, and advance sustainable growth throughout Southern California.
The Bloomington Sewer Extension Project demonstrates how targeted infrastructure investments can prepare communities for future housing needs and improve essential public services. The project will expand sewer service by installing approximately 8,500 feet of new sewer pipeline, 30 utility manholes, and new connections to the existing sewer system along Valley Boulevard. These improvements will enhance wastewater infrastructure in the area and address capacity constraints that limit future development.
Once completed, the project is expected to support up to 500 additional housing units and improve service availability for more than 180 parcels. The expanded infrastructure helps Bloomington accommodate future growth, which supports both local housing goals and regional efforts to increase housing supply.
Infrastructure investments like the Bloomington project are critical for preparing communities to build more housing. By addressing essential service needs, projects funded through REAP 2.0 help local jurisdictions remove development barriers, attract investment, and build stronger, more resilient communities.
