Go Human 2025 Year In Review

SCAG’s Go Human program supported community-led safety and engagement strategies across the region throughout 2025. Go Human collaborated with community leaders and organizations, cities, and local agencies to create safer, healthier places. Here’s a snapshot of Go Human’s year: 

  • Funded and supported 34 traffic safety events across 16 jurisdictions, reaching over 84,000 people.
  • Deployed the Kit of Parts Lending Library seven times to support temporary safety demonstration projects across five counties.
  • One previous Go Human demonstration project moved toward implementation.
  • Distributed over 1,400 helmets and other safety materials to 10 partners for traffic safety events.
  • Presented the Kit of Parts Lending Library program at four national conferences across the country.
  • Participated in three open streets events, reaching nearly 70,000 people and distributing over 500 helmets.
  • Received seven local, regional, and state awards for work of the Go Human program and its partners!

Go Human 2025 Year In Review

This year, Go Human provided funding support to 21 partners for 34 events to host traffic safety education at local community events. Go Human distributed over $186,000, reaching over 84,000 people in 16 jurisdictions in the six-county SCAG region. Partners and events included: 

  • 2025 Lifesavers Conference in Long Beach.
  • Tomorrow’s World, Juneteenth Jam in Rialto.
  • Stronger Together Now, Juneteenth Block Party in San Bernardino.
  • Active SGV, Active Streets: Mission-at-Twilight event in Alhambra.
  • Central City Neighborhood Partners, Back to School, Back to Safety event in Los Angeles.
  • City of Artesia, Traffic Calming Pop-Up event in Artesia.
  • CicLAvia and Walk 'n Rollers, CicLAvia: Culver City Meets Venice in Los Angeles.
  • Bike LA, Rail-to-Rail Community Bicycle Ride in South Los Angeles.
  • Walk Bike Glendale, Glendale Moves! event in Los Angeles.
  • Bike Ventura County, Family Rodeo in Ventura.
  • Yolanda Davis-Overstreet Consulting, Los Angeles County Anti-Racism, Diversity, and Inclusion Initiative’s screening of “Biking While Black: Continuing to Ride through Decriminalization, Disenfranchisement, and Gentrification in Los Angeles.
  • City of Adelanto, Movies in the Park event in Adelanto.
  • CicLAvia and East Side Riders Bike Club, CicLAvia: Historic South Central Meets Watts in Los Angeles.
  • Reach Out, Cruise Thru Summer event in Jurupa Valley.
  • Santa Ana Active Streets, Bike Rodeo event in Santa Ana.
  • Nyeland Promise, Nyeland Acres Pedestrian Safety Event in Nyeland Acres.
  • Day One, Greenbuild Resiliency Studio Workshop in Pasadena.
  • Public Matters, Boo-Boo Bandage Brigade Bonanza in Los Angeles.
  • Los Amigos de la Comunidad, Inc. Back to School Night, Hispanic Heritage Assembly, and the Rededication of Hinojosa Park's Water Tank Area in Brawley.
  • Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Parks After Dark Event Series in Los Angeles.
  • Walk 'n Rollers, Safe Riding Series in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. 

Go Human x CicLAvia: Event Support & Helmet Distribution 

Go Human partnered with CicLAvia to sponsor an educational play space at two open streets events, reaching approximately 67,000 people. Events included: 

  • CicLAvia: Culver City Meets Venice: Go Human partnered with CicLAvia and Walk 'n Rollers to host a traffic safety booth to distribute 150 helmets.

  • CicLAvia: Historic South Central Meets Watts: Go Human partnered with CicLAvia and the East Side Riders Bike Club to host a traffic safety booth to distribute 375 helmets.

Kit of Parts Lending Library: Showcasing Temporary Safety Demonstrations

The Go Human Kit of Parts Lending Library allows partners to borrow materials to showcase temporary traffic safety improvements as a community engagement and feedback strategy. In 2025, Go Human loaned out the Kit of Parts seven times to partners across the region for temporary safety demonstrations across five counties. 

The temporary demonstrations reached over 1,650 people and secured 113 surveys, including the following partners: 

  • Lifesavers Conference, 2025 Lifesavers Conference on Roadway Safety in Long Beach.
  • 2025 SCAG Regional Conference and General Assembly in Palm Desert.
  • City of Artesia’s Traffic Calming Pop Up Event in Artesia.
  • Bike Ventura County, Family Rodeo in Ventura.
  • City of Adelanto, Movies in the Park event in Adelanto.
  • Association of Metropolitan Planning Organizations (AMPO), 2025 AMPO Annual Conference in Providence, Rhode Island.
  • Latino Health Access, Orange County Transportation Authority’s Bus Stop Safety & Accessibility Plan Project in Santa Ana. 

From Pop-Up to Permanent: Nyeland Acres Installs Speed Signs & Crosswalks 

Go Human partner Nyeland Promise culminated a three-year traffic safety effort to raise awareness about bicycle and pedestrian safety through the “Safe Travels in Nyeland Acres” campaign by installing speed limit signs on all residential roads in 2022 and 2023 and installing crosswalks in 2025. This campaign was supported by funding by Go Human’s Community Streets Grant Program through the “Safe Travels in Nyeland Acres” Bike Rodeos projects in 2022, 2023, and 2024, and a Go Human Kit of Parts traffic safety demonstration in 2024 in Nyeland Acres.  

Traffic Safety Messaging Campaign: Partner Support 

SCAG’s Go Human makes traffic safety messaging materials available to partners across the region.

In 2025, campaign partners included:  

  • Los Angeles City Councilmember Monica Rodriguez’s Office
  • Riverside County Transportation Commission
  • City of Brawley
  • Riverside University Health System 

Bilingual ads included printed materials, digital and social ads, and radio ads screened in movie theaters, generating an estimated 1.2 million impressions.

 

 

Awards & Recognition 

In 2025, SCAG Go Human and partner projects received seven awards from the American Planning Association (APA), from both local sections and the state chapter, as well as from the California Association of Councils of Governments (CALCOG). Congratulations to the award winners!

  • Central City Neighborhood Partners: “Connecting Communities: Identifying Structural Barriers in Westlake, MacArthur Park and Koreatown” awarded the Award of Merit in the Grassroots Initiative category by the APA Los Angeles section.
  • Los Angeles Walks: “Safe Streets Advocates/Safe Streets Promotoras Office Hours” (2024 Go Human Community Streets Grant project) awarded the Award of Excellence in the Communications Initiative & Outreach by the APA Los Angeles section and the Award of Merit in the Communications Initiative & Outreach category by the APA California Chapter.   • Riverside Art Museum: “RIDE-WALK-ENGAGE" (2024 Go Human Community Streets Grant project) awarded the Excellence Award in the Communications category by the APA Inland Empire Section.
  • SCAG Go Human: CALCOG recognized Go Human with the Eureka! Award for Regional Excellence.
