SCAG, in partnership with the city of Riverside Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson, hosted the Inland Empire Housing Workshop on Jan. 14, gathering city and county staff, housing professionals, and community organizations to address the region’s most pressing housing challenges.

The workshop focused on real-world approaches to increasing housing supply, coordinating infrastructure, and reducing barriers to housing production. Attendees gained access to regional data tools, state-level insights, and peer strategies designed to support local planning and implementation efforts.

The program featured a keynote address from Tia Boatman Patterson, president and chief executive officer of the California Community Reinvestment Corporation, who shared state-level perspectives and financing tools to help accelerate housing production and expand affordability. SCAG staff presented regional housing trends and available resources. The workshop concluded with a panel discussion, “Strategies to Promote Development,” moderated by Michelle Davis, Director of Housing and Human Services for the city of Riverside. Panelists Joseph Dieguez, Senior Vice President at Kosmont Financial Services; Kimberly Ruddins, Assistant Planning Director for the city of Ontario; and Car Stiehl, City Planner for the city of Murrieta, shared practical strategies related to infrastructure coordination, innovative financing, and interagency collaboration.
