SCAG Local Resources: Supporting Regional Solutions with Data‑Driven Collaboration
SCAG offers a wide range of funding programs, data tools, trainings, and technical assistance to help local jurisdictions plan and implement projects that advance the regional vision outlined in the Connect SoCal Regional Transportation Plan/Sustainable Communities Strategy.
These resources provide communities with tools to meet evolving regional challenges by supporting local transportation planning, housing production, sustainability, and community development.
Funding Opportunities for Local Priorities
SCAG administers several funding programs that support infrastructure, planning, and community initiatives:
The Surface Transportation Block Grant and Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement programs support transportation infrastructure, congestion reduction, and air quality improvements. Calls for projects are issued every two years.
The Regional Early Action Planning grant programs advance housing and climate goals through targeted planning and implementation efforts. While originally a one-time funding source, SCAG continues to pursue additional funding opportunities.
The Sustainable Communities Program funds community planning and implementation aligned with regional policy goals. Applications are accepted every four years, with rolling opportunities following regional plan adoption.
The Active Transportation Program supports active transportation plans, safe routes to school programs, and infrastructure projects, with funding cycles every two years.
The Go Human program promotes traffic safety through community engagement and education, with ongoing opportunities as resources allow.
Data and Tools to Inform Decision-Making
SCAG’s Regional Data Platform provides local jurisdictions with access to critical data and tools that support informed planning and collaboration.
Key resources include:
- SoCal Transportation Safety Resource Hub: A centralized platform for safety data, including the Regional High Injury Network and predictive modeling tools to identify high-risk locations and evaluate safety outcomes.
- High Quality Transit Corridor and Major Transit Stop Tool: An interactive mapping resource that helps identify areas best suited for transit-oriented development and higher-density growth.
Technical Assistance and Data Requests
SCAG provides multiple pathways for jurisdictions to request data and technical support:
Regional Hub Technical Assistance Request System: Submit requests for data, feedback, or one-on-one assistance through the Regional Data Platform.
Modeling and Forecasting Data Request System: Access input and output data from SCAG’s regional travel demand model to support local projects.
Transportation Data Analysis Technical Assistance Program: Get consultant support for big data analysis, training, and visualization to help agencies maximize their data capabilities.
Trainings and Information Sharing
SCAG supports knowledge-building and collaboration through ongoing training and engagement opportunities:
