Location: 1512 Foothill Blvd., La Cañada Flintridge, CA 91011 (In the parking lot on the southwest corner of Foothill Blvd. and Indiana Ave.)

Feet First is the kickoff festival for Feet Week, the City of La Cañada Flintridge’s week-long celebration of walking and biking to school. Join us to learn how to make walking and biking safely to school a reality. Let us know you are coming and invite your friends on Facebook.

Meet us at the festival hub at Indiana Avenue and Foothill Boulevard to get all the information you need to find a safe route to school and learn the basics of bicycle safety. Then, join us as we demonstrate a walking “school bus” with a guided community walk from the event hub to La Cañada Elementary School!

Every volunteer plays a key role in making Feet First a safe and fun event. Whether you have two hours or all day, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved. If you are interested in volunteering at the event, please contact Arturo Nevarez, Los Angeles Neighborhood Initiative (LANI).

How to Get There

By Bike

We encourage to you to bike to the event to test out the temporary street features and make your way easily to the activities and activations through the event.

By Walking
People walking to event

We encourage you to walk to the event so you may take your time to experience all of the activities that the event has to offer. in addition, you’ll be cutting vehicle emissions and improving the air quality for your neighborhood!

Transit
Transit bus

Taking transit is another great option to travel to Feet First. The event is accessible by Glendale Beeline routes 3, 32, 33, 34 at the Foothill Boulevard and Indiana Avenue stop.

All streets will remain open to cars so people walking and bicycling can experience these improvements in normal day-to-day conditions.

1. Where is the event?

The Feet First festival hub will be at the corner of Foothill Boulevard and Indiana Avenue. The walking school bus will depart at 12:30 p.m. from the festival hub to La Cañada Elementary School on a route that travels southeast along Foothill Boulevard and north on La Cañada Boulevard towards the school.

2. What is a Safe Routes to School program?

Safe Routes to School (SRTS) programs are programs that aim to increase the number of students who choose an active mode of transportation (walking, bicycling, scooter, skateboarding) to get to school. SRTS develops programs to provide resources and encouragement efforts that make it safer and easier to for students to walk and bike in their community.

3. What is a walking school bus?

A walking school bus is a group of children walking to school with one or more adults.

4. Will the street remain open during the event?

Yes! The streets will remain open to cars so that people walking and biking can test out these temporary street improvements in real conditions.

5. Will there be other events like this?

Yes, Go Human partners with cities to host events throughout the Southern California region. You can see a list of upcoming planned events on the Go Human website. In addition, CicLAvia and other organizations host Open Street events throughout the year in various communities.

6. Is this a free event?

Yes! This a FREE event open to people of all ages. We encourage you to bring your family and friends along to learn more about walking and biking in La Cañada Flintridge.
